FilmCraft, the video editor in the ArtCraft suite, copies Adobe Premiere Pro. The Concat video editor copies CapCut. That one difference decides most of this comparison: FilmCraft suits people cutting longer projects with pro formats, while Concat suits people making quick social videos with captions and voiceover.
Is Concat better than ArtCraft's FilmCraft?
For TikTok, Reels and Shorts, the Concat video editor is the better fit today. It has local auto captions, text to speech, voice cloning and background removal. FilmCraft offers optional speech to text that is off by default, and voice synthesis and AI cutouts are not documented for it. For long-form editing with three-point edits, color grading and AAF or XML handoff, FilmCraft is far ahead.
Both are very new. The Concat video editor went public on August 25, 2026 and is in beta. The FilmCraft repository was created at the end of September 2026 and calls itself alpha. Its own team rates it about 56% ready for real work against Premiere Pro, a figure they re-measured on October 10, 2026.
What is ArtCraft and where does FilmCraft fit?
ArtCraft started as an open-source studio for AI image and video generation. It lets you stage scenes in 2D and 3D, pose characters and send prompts to models such as Sora, Midjourney and Grok. Stable builds are for Windows and macOS. The app is free with your own compute or subscriptions. Paid credit plans start at $10 a month.
FilmCraft is one of a growing set of Craft apps from the same team, next to PhotoCraft, SoundCraft and others. It is a separate download with no credits involved. So the honest comparison here is FilmCraft against Concat, not the ArtCraft generator against Concat. The generator makes new clips from prompts, while both editors cut footage you already have. Phoronix noted that AI agents helped write these "clean-room" apps and raised open questions about that approach.
How do the AI tools compare?
The Concat video editor puts AI where short-form editors want it. Whisper captions and four voice models (two Kokoro builds, Pocket TTS and Chatterbox Turbo) download once from Settings. The 15 MB cutout model downloads on first use. After that, all of them run offline. FilmCraft has few AI features so far. Speech to text is optional and off by default.
Both are built for automation. FilmCraft exposes more than 650 commands to a CLI, a JSON control channel and an MCP server. The Concat README describes an MCP server as well, but the --mcp flag was missing from the 0.2.7 release we tested.

When should you pick FilmCraft?
Pick FilmCraft if your hands already know Premiere shortcuts and panels. It even offers key layouts for Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro and Avid. Its timeline has source and program monitors, ripple and roll trims, a Lumetri-style color panel and loudness meters. It also moves projects to Resolve, Final Cut and Avid through standard formats. Its developers report signed Windows builds and notarized macOS builds, which should spare you the security warnings that Concat triggers. The team itself advises caution with real projects, so test on copies.
When should you pick the Concat video editor?
Pick the Concat video editor if you make vertical videos and want CapCut habits. Projects come in 16:9, 9:16, 1:1 or 4:3. Q and W delete left and right of the playhead like CapCut. Captions take a few clicks. It also runs on Android phones, which FilmCraft does not. The weak spots are real: unsigned installers, no built-in template library and beta bugs. In our test, Kokoro voices failed until Pocket TTS was also downloaded. The concat github page is the place to report problems like that. If you only need captions and a voiceover on a phone clip, the Concat video editor will get you there today, while FilmCraft is still filling in its basics.
