## The basics

### What is the Concat video editor?

Concat is a free, open-source video editor for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS that runs entirely on your device. It is written in Rust and covers what most people open CapCut for: captions, text to speech, background removal, keyframes, effects and titles.

### Who makes Concat?

Concat is developed by Jareer (jub0t) with community contributors on GitHub. The project went public on August 25, 2026 and was earlier known as WolfCut.

### Is Concat free?

Yes. The Concat video editor is free with no paid tier, no trial, no watermark and no account. The code is open source under AGPL-3.0 and the project is supported by sponsors.

### Is it Concat or Concut?

The name is Concat, from concatenate, which is also the name of its official site. “Concut” is a common typo influenced by CapCut. Both searches mean the same Concat video editor.

### Is concatenate.pages.dev the official Concat site?

Yes. The Concat README links to concatenate.pages.dev for downloads and guides, and the GitHub repository lists concat.standalones.org as its homepage. concatvideoeditor.com is a separate, independent guide.

### Is this the official Concat website?

No. concatvideoeditor.com is an independent guide made by users. It is not affiliated with the Concat project, CapCut or ByteDance, and it links every download to the official GitHub releases.

### Is Concat related to the concat command in FFmpeg?

No. FFmpeg has a concat demuxer and filter for joining files, and many languages have a concat function for strings. The Concat video editor is a separate app, though it uses FFmpeg internally for decoding and encoding.

## Download and install

### Where is Concat on GitHub?

The Concat GitHub repository is https://github.com/jub0t/Concat. Installers for every platform are on its Releases page together with a SHA256SUMS file.

### Is the Concat video editor safe?

The code is public and the builds come from the official GitHub release. The installers are not code-signed yet, so Windows and macOS warn you on first launch. Check the SHA256 hash if you want to confirm the file is untouched.

### Is there a Concat app for phones?

Yes. The Concat app for Android is an .apk on GitHub, and the iPhone and iPad build is an .ipa you sideload. Neither is in Google Play or the App Store.

### Why does macOS say Concat is damaged?

macOS shows that message for unsigned apps downloaded from the internet. Running xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Concat.app in Terminal clears the flag for Concat only.

### Does Concat need a GPU?

No. We ran Concat 0.2.7 with software rendering and no graphics card. It worked but the window was slow and AI background analysis took minutes, so a GPU is strongly recommended.

## Features

### Does the Concat video editor have auto captions?

Yes. Concat transcribes speech with local Whisper models from 78 MB to 488 MB and places timed captions on their own track. It can also time a script you type.

### Can Concat do text to speech?

Yes. Concat reads a script with Kokoro, Pocket TTS or Chatterbox voices and places the audio on the timeline. Pocket TTS can clone a voice from a short recording.

### Can I make vertical videos for TikTok in Concat?

Yes. Choose 9:16 when you create the project. Concat also supports 16:9, 1:1 and 4:3. To change the frame size or frame rate later, click empty space on the timeline, then Modify in the Details panel.

### Does Concat add a watermark?

No. There is no watermark on any export and no paid tier that removes one.

### Does the Concat video editor work offline?

Yes, once the AI models are downloaded. Editing, captions, voices and background removal all run on your device.

### Does Concat have templates?

Not built-in ones in 0.2.7. You can save your own project as a template with clips marked as slots and reuse it.

### Can AI agents use Concat?

The Concat README describes a built-in MCP server and a JSON-RPC API. In the 0.2.7 release we tested, the --mcp option and the Automation settings were not present yet, so check the release notes for your version.

## Concat compared

### Is Concat better than CapCut?

For privacy, price and limits, yes: Concat is free, offline and has no watermark. CapCut is more mature, has a large template library and is in the app stores. See our Concat vs CapCut comparison for the full table.

### What is the difference between Concat and OpenCut?

Both are open-source CapCut alternatives. Concat is a native Rust desktop app with local AI features, while OpenCut started as a browser-based editor. Our Concat vs OpenCut page compares them in detail.

### How does Concat compare with ArtCraft?

ArtCraft is a suite of open-source creative apps, and its video editor is called FilmCraft. FilmCraft follows a Premiere-style workflow, while Concat follows CapCut. Our Concat vs ArtCraft page has the details.
